About
A former high school library media specialist and a lecturer in library science at Indiana University, Carol Tilley is currently an assistant professor in the Graduate School of Library and Information Science (GSLIS) at the University of Illinois.
Her teaching and research interests include children’s print culture, media literacy, and school librarianship. She is co-editor of School Library Media Research, the referred online journal of the American Association of School Librarians. One of her journal publications, "New Mentors for New Media: Harnessing the Instructional Potential of Cognitive Apprenticeships," (co-authored with Daniel Callison and appearing in Knowledge Quest, May/June 2007) was named as one of the top articles of 2007 by the Library Instruction Round Table.
One of her current research projects, Folktales and Facets, undertaken with Kathryn La Barre, also an assistant professor at GSLIS, was the recipient of the 2009 OCLC/ALISE Library Research Grant competition. The project unites the study of information seeking and facet analysis in an attempt to develop an enhanced bibliographic record format for complex information resources such as folktales.
She also investigates reading guidance concerning comic books for young people during the years 1938-1955.
